Sugar Ray Leonard

In 1991, I went to Clearwater Mall in Clearwater, Florida with my friend Joe and his mother. As we're wandering around the mall, I spot a guy in a Hallmark store whom I instantly recognized as the great boxer, Sugar Ray Leonard. He was also with 2 very large men, who I assumed were bodyguards, which only assured me that it was who I thought it was.
As Sugar Ray was paying for his merchandise, I got close enough to one of the bodyguards and asked, "is that who I think it is?" He just smiled and nodded yes. At that moment I pulled a dollar bill out of my wallet and then asked Joe's mom if she had a pen on her. Thankfully, she did. Sugar Ray then exited the store and I politely asked him for an autograph.
Sugar Ray Leonard signed a U.S. One Dollar Bill.

Juan Gonzalez

I met him at Dunedin Stadium at Grant Field in Dunedin, Florida in 1992, when the Texas Rangers came to play the Toronto Blue Jays in a spring training game.

I hate using blue Sharpie's. When I started collecting autographs I learned that black is the only color that won't fade. Sometimes when you're amongst a group trying for the same autograph, the person signing will just use the same pen for multiple items rather than switching pens for each person.
Still, I'm very happy that I was able to get it.

Juan signed a 1992 Upper Deck card #243.

Roberto Alomar

I hate being greedy when it comes to collecting autographs. I'm very happy with just having one and then never asking again. In the early 90's, the Blue Jays were such a good team and so was their second baseman, Roberto Alomar. He was on the cover of a few Beckett's and I just wanted them all signed. Plus, Robbie was an extremely generous autograph signer, so, it was rather easy to get anything signed by him.
I first met him at a spring training game at Dunedin Stadium at Grant Field in Dunedin, Florida in 1992.

Roberto signed a 1991 Upper Deck card #83F. Over the next few spring training seasons, I was also able to have him sign a few Beckett Baseball Card Monthly issues. Those were the June 1992, October 1992, and August 1993 issues.

Joe Carter

I met him at Englebert Complex, the Toronto Blue Jays spring training facility in Dunedin, Florida in 1992.

Joe signed a 1991 Leaf card #353. Two Springs later I attempted to get the March and August 1993 Beckett Baseball Card Monthly issues signed. The March issue was easy to get, he even took the time to personalize it for me, which I love. The August issue was a little tougher for me. Roberto Alomar and John Olerud were fairly easy to get since they were very willing signers for anyone who asked. For weeks Joe's autograph was missing from this cover. I'd bring it with me to each Blue Jays spring training game, hoping to finally have all 3 signatures.
One day, my brother, Brian was asked to be a bat boy for the game. Before the game had started, I handed my bother the magazine hoping he could get it signed. A few minutes later he comes out and hands me back the freshly signed issue. Mission accomplished.

Eddie Zosky

I met him at Englebert Complex, the Toronto Blue Jays spring training facility in Dunedin, Florida.

This is a day that I’ll never forget. It was March 4, 1992. My senior class skip day. Days earlier I had asked Rob Ducey if he could donate any items to the East Lake Little League silent auction. He said he would, so I told him I was going to see the Blue Jays practice later that week. I get down there, see Rob, and he asks the security guard to let me in. Rob gave me a tour of the clubhouse, while all the players were still in there. He then invited me to sit on the bleachers and watch the players practice. He also gave me some great stuff to donate. The East Lake Little League was very thankful.

The next several autographs were all from this day. The players would just come over to me and sign before heading back into the clubhouse. Eddie signed a 1992 Fleer card #348.

One of my favorite memories was seeing him in a Target store a week after the 1992 World Series had ended. I told him his toss to first was the best I had ever seen. He got a laugh out of that.

Mike signed a 1991 Leaf card #525. A year or so later he signed an 8x10 glossy for me.
