I met him at Paul Owens Training Facility at Carpenter Complex, the Philadelphia Phillies spring training facility in Clearwater, Florida in 2015.
For as long as I've been going to this complex to watch the Phillies and collect autographs, Mike was always there, yet I never had a card to get signed by him. A few weeks before getting this card signed, he stopped my brother and me
to say hello and told us that he had been working at that complex, as both a player and coach since 1968.
It was that moment that I finally decided to seek out a card of him. Though, my brother beat me to it and told me that he had already ordered one for me.
I went back to the complex about a week later. Unfortunately, the card had still not arrived. Mike approached me and asked if I was having any luck getting autographs. I told him that I had a card of his being sent to me. He replied, "at my age, you better hurry up."
The card finally arrived and a few days later I went back to the complex. When he finished signing my card, I thanked him and he said, "no, thank you for asking." It was such a classy reply.
Mike signed a 1971 Topps card #77.
